Andrée Blouin spent fourteen years inside a colonial convent in Congo before anyone knew what she'd become. What came after — the death of her son, the fire it lit in her — turned a seamstress into one of the most consequential organisers of Africa's independence era, an advisor who stood beside Patrice Lumumba at the height of his power and helped shape a continent's break from empire.
Her Country, Africa tells that story as an animated documentary, drawn in graphic novel form and set across colonial Africa, 1920–1960 — starting at the peak, 1960 independence, then tracing back through the life that built it. It's the first of the books we're turning into films, not the last.
